Congenital hyperplastic goiter in sheep

A case of congenital Goitre in sheep, which ocurred in a farm situated in the area of Paysandú, Uruguay, on basaltic soil is presented. A high percentage of newborn lambs with thyroid enlargement associated with a high mortality was observed. Reid and laboratory findings are described (emphasizing histology). Possible influences on production and future patterns of research are suggested.
