Brucella abortus significación de los títulos aglutinantes en bovinos de carne del Uruguay

A sample of 738 adult beef cows vaccinated with strain 19 was studied, the objective was to know the significance of agglutination titers.
The Plate Agglutination test showed 449 (60.84 %) sera with titers, 32 (4.34 %) were suspicious and none was positive. The Tube Agglutination test gave similar results. The Rose Bengal test disclosed 42 (5.64 0/0) positive sera; from these sera two were positive to the Mercaptoethanol test end one of the last ones was positive to the Complement Fixation test too. All the other sera were negative to these tests. From 1280 Agar Dextrose serum plates (with inhibitors) seeded with samples from udder and limph nodes of 64 cows selected as possible infected, none Brucella abortus isolating were obtained.
The authors suggest that most of the agglutination titers < 200 i,a.u. represent in Uruguay residuals vaccination antibodies and they claim to employ a more usefull diagnostic proceduns like the Rose Bengal test as screening and complemented with a more specific one.
