The objective of the present paper is to determine the genetic variability in Thoroughbred horses from Uruguay htough the exoected average heterocigocity and the incidence of genetic variability in the paternity tests analized by blood markers. A hundred horses chosen by chance are typed for seven blood systems and four protein systems, being the expected average heterocigocity 0,411. This result is higher than those found in United States sample. The Exclusion Probability (EP) obtained in this experience correspond to 95,528%. It is concluded that the higher genetic variability presented in Thoroughbred would be the cause of this high EP, being an indicator of the paternity test efficiency.
