Abstract

In April 1997, an in vitro diagnostic test of resistance was performed with field populations of Haematobia irritans in six establishments in Uruguay. A pyrethroid (cypermethrin) and an organophosphate (diazinon) were checked for DL 50 and resistance factor, and compared with the reference strain from the laboratory in Kerrville (Texas, USA). The values found showed a high resistance to cypermethrin but not to diazinon, to which the flies showed a similar behavior to the standard strain.
