Abstract

The dilution and supplementation with PG F2 apha (10 micrograms per insemination dose) of fresh ram semen used in routine AI programs and its effect on fertility was studied. There was a tendency for a diminished  fertility of the rams whose semen, diluted and supplemented was considered of poor quality. This is considered to be caused mainly by the dilution effect. It was eliminated when the semen used was one of a normal quality, even with an increment in fertility of more than 10% when compared with that of the control group of pure semen. It is concluded that the addition of PGs to the ram fresh semen increases its potential fertility.
