Abstract

A serological survey for Bovine Viral Diarrhea (BVD) in beef cattle, including a few dairy herds was performed using the indirect ELISA test for the identification of circulating antibodies. The survey included 1485 sera samples from 10 provinces of the country (Artigas, Cerro Largo, Durazno, Lavalleja, Paysandú, Río Negro, Rivera, Salto, Tacuarembó and Treinta y Tres). The crude prevalence index established was between 60.5% and 62.9% with a confidence level of 95%. The percentage of positive farms identified was between 99.2% and 99.4%. Results indicate that this disease is widely distributed in the country.
