Abstract

In equine blood, several genetic markers (GM) are identified, being the most used, so far, blood groups and biochemical polymorphisms. An evaluation is made according to the efficiency of three techniques to be used as a routine method in the diagnosis of paternity. The traditional blood typing by electrophoresis of protein systems continues to be a fundamental support to genetic improvement programs. The paternity diagnosis based on the determination of these markers guarantees with great precision the selection of the equine breeders.
