Abstract

This paper is about an histochemical study on the vaginal epitelium of the sow. This epitelium contains sialic and sulfo mucins in different locations. Partly these mucins are resultant of mucous degeneration and also a result of a true mucous secretion. As an aid to pregnancy diagnosis a consistent difference in demostrated between subepitelial corion fibrocites of pregnant sows and sows in folicular maturation phase. Base on this difference we can distinguish between pregnant and not pregnant animals, well in advance to the next heat after breeding.
