A bacteria identified as Photobacterium phophoreum is described. This micro-organism was cultured from beef meat with evidence of luminiscence.
It showed luminiscence that was documented photographically when isolated in pure culture in blood-agar medium.
There was no evidence of pathogenic action in young dogs and cats as well as laboratory animals when high amounts of pure culture was administered orally.
