Abstract

The experimental reproduction of Corynebacterium equi purulent pneumonia in a "criolla" breed foal is described. During the experiment hematological and bacteriological analysis were done. The clinical symptoms bagan after four "days post-inoculation. Sensorial depression, anorexia, high temperature, high cardiac and respiratory frequencies, cough, humid stenors, nasal discharge and purulent conjunctivitis were observed. The foal died 11 days after the inoculation. In the post-mortem examination of the animal abscesses in the lungs, focal bronchial pneumonia and edema were observed. C. equi was isolated from nasal and ocular discharge, tracheal fluid, bronchial Iimph node, lung abscess pus, mesenteric limph nodes and synovial fluid. The histological lesions showed severe bronchial pneumonia and acute adenitis.
