A study was carried out of the antiemetic effect of domperidone as regard the emetogenic property of arecoline used in dogs in order to establish echinococcus-diagnosis. The dogs were provided by municipal animal pound and consisted of mogrels both male and female, with ages ranging from 6 months to 8 years. The animal were fastad during 12 hour prior to the administration of arecoline. In every case studied we used the 1.6% arecoline bromhidrate solution in plain syrup at the 4 mg/kg live weight (L.W.) dose (WHO). We studied different antiemetic doses and evaluated their activity in the absence of vomiting and non-interference with development of diarrea, a prerequisite for the diagnosis of echinococcosis. For the 3 doses of domperidone studied , namely 2.5 mg/kg L.W. 1 mg/kg L.W. and 0.5 mg/kg L.W., it was possible to observe abolition of vomiting of peripheral origin and development of diarrhea within 4 to 33 minutes after administration of the taenia releaser.
