Introduction, spread and initial situation of Haematobia irritans in Uruguay

Abstract

A description on Haematobia irritans' expansion was done registering the moments in which this fly was found the first time in the different policial sections of each of the uruguayan departments. The first registered observations were done in december 1991 while the last ones were in february 1993; therefore, the lotal period of Haematobia irritans' expansion all around the uruguayan territory was 15 months. The way of expansion as well as some aspects of the producers and veterinarias' reactions on the presence and action of this new insect in the country are also analised.
