Abstract

At present the rabbit is becoming more popular as a pet and as special dish. As can be seen at pet shops and butcheries. Therefore there is more interest in everything related to the species. The anatomy of the rabbit is not well known and there is no agreenment in the nomenclature. The objective of the present work is to propose a division of the caecum and colon according to thr Nómina Anatómica Veterinaria, to name each part short and simple, easy to remember so it is instructive ad descriptive. Eighteen adult rabbits were studied. Some were dissected fresh and others fixed in 10% formaline. The caecum is haze in one and a half loop; it has a base, a body with 3 parts and the vermiform appendix. The ascendent colon also has 3 parts; a proximal loop, an intermediate loop with two parts (major and minor) and a distal loop attached to the mesoduodenum and mesentery. A list as names in the Nómina Anatómica Veterinaris style is proposed.
