Abstract

An outbreak of Brucella ovis infectation in rams of one farm is report and control measures are assessed. All rams and teasers were examined six times: four of them at consecutive monthly intervals and twice after the mating season. Those considered infecte on clinical or serological grounds were culled: 80 out of 208 (38.5%) rams and teasers were discarded. There were no reactors to the complement fixation (C.F.) test in the last two monthly examinations. On the 5th and 6th examinations -post mating- no positive reactors were found neither to C.F. nor to G.D.

From the 43 animals with a positive serology, 17 were positive to borth tests (C.F. and G.D.), 10 were positive only to C.F. and 16 positive only to G.D.

Some recommendations are given regarding control of the diseases in the country and new research lines are suggested.
